Risk of Antibiotic Resistance
Many years ago, a simple disease infected by bacteria could be deadly due to the absence of antibiotic for treatment. The infection could again become a danger if the bacteria will get used to the medication because of overusing it. Whenever someone experiences too much coughing, sneezing, aches and pains of the common colds, he would normally ask for the doctor’s prescription of antibiotics. If they will be able to go safely to the doctor’s office, an antibiotic will be used by the doctor to save them from all the troubles. But insisting only in antibiotics could pose a danger to the patient’s health. An antibiotic is proven to be not as effective as a common cold treatment and if overused, might cause possible serious problems.
Viruses that cause colds are different from any type of organism. There is no medication which can be use to fight against viral infection and no anti viral drug which can be used to cure common colds. Usually, your body will heal on its own. It can get rid of the problem and you will just feel fine without taking antibiotics.
Taking antibiotics can be risky and may have possible side effects. These can also affect all parts of the body and the patient may experience diarrhea and will have the tendency of developing yeast infection. And there have been issues of harmful effects of overuse and antibiotic resistance. There are many kinds of bacteria living in our body that doesn’t affect our health. When an antibiotic is given to a patient, who has colds or flu virus, typically it will not be killed but some of the useful bacteria will be affected. Later when these bacteria will be exposed too much to the medication they will be able to fight with it and lose its effectiveness to cure.
If you caught up a bacterial infection from person who has been infected with antibiotic resistant strain, you will have the same infection as well that will not respond to antibiotics. It is estimated that half of all the prescribed antibiotics outside the hospital are for viral infections and that makes them unnecessary. Antibiotic resistance will also develop if the antibiotic is incorrectly used. This happens when a patient is not taking the correct dosage in the prescription. In this case if the medication is done this way, the weakest bacteria will be killed but some of the strongest are might be just roaming around your body when you decide to skip the last drug. These bacteria that remain in the body will stay foot and will become antibiotic resistant.
It is very necessary to educate yourself about the appropriate time an antibiotic is safe to use. This way will help you prepare for treating the possible effects of antibiotic in your body. Awareness of the correct procedure will also help you know when you are not supposed to take an antibiotic. This will also help protect yourself, family and even the people across the globe for the ongoing threat of antibiotic resistance because of using too much antibiotic.
